This café was made to commemorate the Free Speech Movement that occurred from 1964-1965. The Free Speech Movement fought against the campus’s ban of on-campus political activity while promoting students’ rights to free speech and academic freedom. During protests Sproul is the main place where students like to assemble and speak their minds.
