This week’s Campus Celebrity is the one and only Tony Gonzalez!
You may all know him as one of the greatest tight ends in all NFL history, but Tony Gonzalez was once a Golden Bear. From 1994-1996, Gonzalez attended and played for both the football and basketball team here at Cal.
In 1997, Gonzalez decided to enter the NFL Draft in which he was ranked in the top 15 players selection and was eventually picked up by the Kansas City Chiefs.
After many years with the Kansas City Chiefs, Gonzalez was traded to the Atlanta Falcons where he played until his retirement in 2013. Gonzalez played 270 games in 17 seasons overall in his football career and has the second most touchdown reception in NFL history with 111.
While his time here at Cal, Gonzales was studying communication which sure has helped him in his new job as a sports analyst on CBS’s NFL pregame show NFL Today.
Recently, Gonzalez was inducted in Cal’s Hall of Fame and was back on campus reminiscing his years as a Golden Bear last week. We are proud to call Tony Gonzalez not only a fellow Golden Bear but also a Hall of Famer!! Congrats!!
