I’m sure it has crossed everyone’s minds sometime during exam season — maybe after seeing one too many Facebook advertisements for suspiciously cheap plane tickets — that it would be easier to spend the rest of your money on a one-way trip out of here. While we might not be that impulsive, that doesn’t stop us from dreaming. This week we asked UBC students where they would go if they got a one-way ticket to anywhere.

“One way ticket to china because I want to go cry in Momma’s arms”

“Puerto Vallarta because all I want is to be about five margaritas deep on a sweltering beach right now…plus, tacos”

“Hawaii because I need to eat some tropical fruits and hike up some breathtaking mountains while singing Moana songs”

“Northern Norway, where I can burrow into a snowbank and hibernate like a bear. Maybe I’ll actually catch up on sleep for once”

“I would like to go to a place where everyone could and would communicate. No egos or hangups. It’s not glamorous, but we, as humanity, would be happier.”

And then there was this person who was taking the entire thought experiment a bit too seriously…

Only a truly dedicated student considers their GPA while daydreaming.

Where would you go if you had the chance? I wonder if there are any countries that accept ‘too much exam stress’ as grounds for granting political asylum… regardless, good luck to all our fellow students out there. Keep those chins up!

Avery is a second-year student at the University of British Columbia, where she is exploring her innumerable and possibly not very practical interests. She hails from the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island and has plans to do much more travelling before she gets too tired. If given a choice she would much rather have gone to Hogwarts, but readily admits that UBC is a close second. Her most notable talent is an uncanny ability to quote Hamilton during almost any conversation.
