A Snapshot of Charlotte Furner: Poetess, Psych Student, and Sea Baby

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UBC chapter.

I met Charlotte last semester in CRWR 201 (Intro to Poetry). She’s beautiful (obvs), soft-spoken, and makes everyone feel included in any given situation.

So, without further ado, a snapshot of the lovely Charlotte Furner:

HCUBC:What year are you in and what are you studying?

Charlotte: I’m in my second year studying Psychology.

HCUBC: Are you from Vancouver?

Charlotte: I’m from Bainbridge Island, Washington (an island 30 minutes away from Seattle by ferry).

HCUBC: Did you learn anything in 2016?

Charlotte: How to make a killer vegetable soup!

HCUBC: Do you have a resolution for 2017?

Charlotte: To get 8 hours of sleep a night regardless of the amount of work I have.

HCUBC: Would you say you’ve changed at all since university? How?

Charlotte: Yes. I used to be terrified of skiing and now I love it. I think I have probably become less afraid of other things too, like living away from home and having financial responsibilities. Doing dishes without a dishwasher.

HCUBC: What’s something you don’t think other people would guess about you at first sight?

Charlotte: I have American, Canadian, and British citizenship.

HCUBC: What’s something you love?

Charlotte: Healthy food that tastes unhealthy.

HCUBC:What’s something you hate?

Charlotte: Marshmallows!

HCUBC: What’s something you find beautiful?

Charlotte: When people are studying something that they are truly passionate about.

HCUBC: Do you live by any mantras? If so, what?

Charlotte: To have compassion for myself and others.

HCUBC: Do you have any long term goals?

Charlotte: To be content in whatever it is that I’m doing.

HCUBC: What’s your definition of home?

Charlotte: We have lived in 5 different countries together, so I always feel at home no matter where we are. Bainbridge will always be home to me as well. It’s about 10 miles long and has 20,000 people, so grocery shopping is never done without seeing someone you know.

HCUBC thanks Charlotte for this wonderful interview and wishes her all the best.
