This past Tuesday was the fall finale for season 2 of This Is Us. Here are just a few of the most heartwarming or heartbreaking moments from this episode.
Heartwarming:
- When Deja didn’t immediately go back to her mom
This moment showed just how much Deja has developed as a person since she has lived with the Pearson clan. If her mom had shown up on their doorstep when Deja first started living with the Pearson’s, she would have run to her mom and left them without question. However, Deja’s time with Randall and his family truly changed her into a more caring and thoughtful person.
- When teenage Randall was extremely happy at his Howard University visit
Seeing teenage Randall so happy at Howard University was the cherry on top of this episode. When Randall was there he finally felt like he belonged and that’s all anybody has ever wanted for Randall.
- When we got to see William again
I don’t know about anyone else, but William was definitely one of my favorite characters in season one. Seeing him in this episode made me smile. It was heartbreaking though when the flashback of William and Randall was that of him telling Randall (and showing us) what his life could’ve been like with Randall if he had knocked on their door that day.
Heartbreaking:
- When Randall and Jack had an incredible father-son moment
Knowing that Jack is going to die at some point while the triplets are teenagers and still in high school, makes me cherish every moment I see him spending with any of his kids. Jack telling Randall that he’s not always going to be around definitely brought a tear to my eye because while we all know Jack’s going to die soon, at that point Randall doesn’t.
- When Randall had to say goodbye to Deja
THIS PART. I would be lying if I didn’t say that a few tears fell down my face when this happened. While I think Randall and Beth made the right choice on letting Deja go live with her mom again, it was still so sad to watch Randall say goodbye to her. During their goodbye you could tell that their relationship certainly grew into that of a father-daughter relationship. Maybe we’ll see Deja again in the second half of this season.
- When Kevin got arrested
I think we all knew something bad was going to happen to Kevin on this finale due to his overuse of pain killers and severe drinking, but we just didn’t know it would be an arrest. I’m definitely anxious to see how Kevin’s arrest will play out in the second half of this season.
With the first half of season 2 of This Is Us now officially at an end, we now have to wait until January 2nd for it to come back on and grace our televisions. Until then, go back and rewatch the first season and the first half of season 2 to remember why you fell in love with This Is Us in the first place.
