Ready, set, GO!

What else could be more exciting than starting your Sunday morning running a marathon around Birmingham? I know you might be thinking I’m crazy, but so are the 968 participants of the 2012 Mercedes Marathon!

It was one of the coldest days of the year so far, but that wasn’t a problem for the enthusiastic participants, who were anxious to challenge themselves and fight against the watch.

The gun went off at 7am, and runners of all kinds jumped on the road with nothing else in mind but reaching the finish line as fast as they could. Professional runners, amateurs, teen boys and girls, older ladies, dads, grandpas, young couples… everyone wants to enjoy some racing fun!

The time and kilometers passed by and everyone started to look more and more tired, but you could still see some people talking, smiling, and screaming words of encouragement at their racing peers. The finish line was getting closer and runners were anxious to reach it. A couple more meters and… they made it! The impressive number of 968 participants crossed the finish line!

After the race the only thing you could see was smiles everywhere. Runners were being congratulated by family and friends, and each of them was getting a medal as a reward to their courage of overcoming the insane amount of 42 kilometers.

To the question “what was the best part of the race,” most of the runner interviewed answered: “proving to myself that I could do it; if I can run a marathon, I can do anything!”
