Order OFF the Menu

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UAB chapter.

Who doesn’t love the creamy, sweet, delicious drinks at Starbucks to help perk you up throughout the day? Some people always order the same drink every visit. I encourage you to try something new if you are the “I’ll take my usual” person. Try awakening your taste buds to something even more delectable; how about trying something even more outrageous! Did you know you can are not limited to the drinks listed on the menu and that you can create your unique beverage?

I am always the person who has to try everything, meaning I like to order something different every visit, unless I’m in the mood for something specific. Upon standing in line one day, I heard the girl in front of me order something I’ve never heard or seen on the normal menu. When I discovered you can customize your drink, my world practically changed and now I am constantly learning and trying new delicious creations.

Have you ever tried a Coffee Frappucino with Toffee Nut and Caramel syrup? How about a White Chocolate Mocha Frap with Raspberry syrup? Wait, did you not know they had Raspberry syrup? Why yes, Starbucks even has Strawberry flavored syrup, although not all store will cater certain flavors, so do check upon ordering.

Besides the two creations I just listed, here is a list of other amazing creations to specially order at Starbucks. They are DEFINITELY worth trying. (I typically prefer everything in Frappucino form.)

  1. Café vanilla or vanilla bean Frappucino with a caramel drizzle in and out.
  2. Caramel Frappucino with Caramel drizzle in and out (to really enhance the flavor).
  3. Salted caramel Frappucino (only if they have the salted caramel crystals).
  4. Black and white mocha (which is a mix of white chocolate mocha and regular mocha).
  5. Vanilla and hazelnut Latte
  6. Chai tea Frappucino
  7. White hot chocolate
  8. Apple Juice with Strawberry syrup
  9. Captain Crunch Frappucino (Strawberries and Cream Frap with Hazelnut or Toffee Nut syrup; tastes like Capt’n Crunch Crunch Berry cereal)
  10. Caramel Macchiato with vanilla
  11. Strawberry Blended Lemonade
  12. Strawberries and Cream Frappucino with Chocolate or White Chocolate syrup/chips (for that Chocolate-dipped strawberry flavor)

There are hundreds of different creations you can make. You are not just limited to adding different syrup flavors, but you can also customize your drink by what kind of milk (soy, nonfat, 2%, breve, whole, or organic), how many shots (1, 2, 3+), whipped cream or no whipped cream, double blended Frappucino (recommended for java/double chocolate chip fraps or to minimize ice chunks), etc.

Get creative, and get ordering. But don’t just limit yourself to editing your usual drink at Starbucks, try expanding to even your everday food choices, such as the toppings on your Subway sandwich.
