Yesterday, Kim Kardashian created a Twitter uproar by posting a nude.
Bette Midler was one of the many people who responded to Kim’s post joking that we’ve all seen every part of Kim.
Chloe Moretz did not take matters as lightly claiming that Kim Kardashian was not suitable as a role model to young girls because she exposes her body. Chloe’s statement implies that nudity is not respectable. It falls in the same category as condemning women for being sexual beings, which is natural, and body shaming.
Kim referred us all to Chloe’s Nylon cover where Chloe can be seen nude with only a leather jacket covering her private parts.
The only difference between the two is that Kim is fully exposed, so for Chloe to try to come for Kim is wrong when she herself posed 75% naked on the cover of a magazine. Chloe was wrong for body shaming Kim, and her argument was weak. Chloe shouldn’t be dragged any furthur than she already has been. She is correct in that women have a lot to offer outside of their bodies. However, body shaming is real and women get ridiculed for their bodies from society and more importantly from other women, even when those other women have done the same. So, let’s stop policing each other and be liberated. Plus, it’s Kim Kardashian. What else would you expect?
This situation begs the question: “What defines someone as a suitable role model?”
