The World is Weird: The Strangest Facts You Never Knew

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Toronto chapter.

During the end of the semester, it can be easy to get wrapped up in the stress, constantly worrying about your latest assignments and exams. We all could use a little humor to remind us that life doesn’t have to be All serious, ALL the time. If for nothing more than to de-stress and take your mind off of everything on your to-do list, here are 10 of the weirdest facts you never knew.

1. Unclaimed Baggage Store-Alabama

There is an entire store in Scottsboro, Alabama, dedicated to selling people’s stuff from lost luggage. If you ever lost any luggage in Alabama, fear not! Some lucky individual may now be sporting your favorite clothes.

2. Name Approval-Denmark

When naming a new baby, the name must be chosen from a list of about 7000 approved names. Kim K would not be happy about this.

3. Christmas Every Day

There are three towns in the U.S. that are named Santa Clause.

4. The Unicorn is the official animal of Scotland.

If for no other reason than the awesome accents and the kilts, this is definitely a top reason to go.

Let’s look at some of Canada’s weirdest quirks:

5. Bagged Milk:

Only in Canada would we drink our milk out of plastic bags. Doesn’t make sense to me, but hey, whatever works!

6. We love our KD

Kraft Dinner is the most consumed food in the country, 55% more than in the states.

7. Polar Bear Prison

There is an actual prison for polar bears who break into peoples’ homes and steal food.

8. Maple Syrup for Dayzz

There is a maple syrup reserve in Quebec. No need to worry about running out. Ever.

9. Santa is Canadian

Apparently, if you send your letters to Santa to the North Pole, HOH OHO Canada, Santa will respond. I know what I’m doing next Christmas.

10. We love our Donuts

Canada has more donut shops per capita than anywhere else. Thank you Tim Hortons. Loves me some Tim Bits.
