Our Top Ten Holiday Movies

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Toronto chapter.

With the new year finally here, it’s almost time to get back into that school grind. Though if you’re still wanting some holiday nostalgia (or are still celebrating some holidays in January), it is time to log onto Netflix, find your favourite spot on the couch and indulge in some holiday movies to get you into that spirit again. Below is a list of our 10 favourite holiday movies:

10. A Christmas Story

A comic tale of Christmas past.

9. The Polar Express

A story about a young boy’s journey to the North Pole.

8. Miracle on 34th Street

“Faith is believing in things when common sense tells you not to.”

7. A Christmas Carol

Nobody wants to be a Scrooge. This film teaches you to look past the materialism and see what is truly important in life.

6. How the Grinch Stole Christmas

A childhood classic.

5. Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer

A classic holiday movie about the famous red-nosed reindeer.

4. Elf

Will Ferrell is hilarious in this movie and will have you in stitches. “I’m sorry I ruined your lives and crammed 11 cookies into the VCR.”

3. Love Actually

If you’re looking for a rom-com but also want to watch a Christmas movie, this one is for you.

2. Home Alone

An eight-year-old’s fight to protect his home.

1. It’s A Wonderful Life

Our all-time favourite Christmas movie. Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed give a stunning performance and teach us the value of life and our impact on those around us. Be sure to bring Kleenex.
