Ah romantic comedies. Those films that can simultaneously make you feel warm and happy inside while simultaneously making you longingly question when you will ever meet your Mr. Right. I have compiled a list of some of the best modern romantic comedy films (with a few old, classic ones thrown in as well). Perhaps this can give you some ideas about which movies to watch next time you host an awesome ladies night in, or when you are feeling bored and scrolling mindlessly through Netflix. Trust me, I won’t judge!

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

This is one of my favorite romantic comedies of all time. It’s funny, lighthearted, and teaches both parties a lesson about the danger of playing games when it concerns love.

The Last Song

How can I possibly make a list about romance movies without including a story written by Nicholas Sparks? The Last Song is a classic, and will have you both weeping and laughing throughout the whole film. Plus, you get the added bonus of seeing when Miley and Liam’s relationship first started! Swoon!

13 Going on 30

A 13-year old girl stuck in a middle-aged woman’s body, falling in love with her childhood best friend? You can be assured that there are tons of hilarious yet heart-felt scenes scattered throughout that will have you looking for your own hunky best friend-turned-lover.

Clueless

This film is full of sass and witty remarks. It spins the cliché story of a popular high school queen looking for a “project” individual to mold into a mini version of herself into something that has unexpected twists and a surprising narrative that makes it stand out from other high school films.

Friends with Benefits

Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake! Need I say more? If these two people aren’t a convincing enough reason for you to watch it (although for the life of me, I cannot figure out why), just imagine this scenario: you become good friends with a very attractive guy and agree that since relationships are too messy, meaningless sex is the best way to go. With this, you can remain friends, but not let complicated feelings and emotions get in the way of anything. Only… surprise, surprise! There ARE emotions and feelings involved and things DO get messy. But in a good way, because it is, after all, a rom-com, and you can be rest assured that things will pan out the way you envision it. So, grab some popcorn, and allow Mila and Justin to take you a wild roller coaster of a ride into the journey of two people trying to figure out where exactly they stand with each other.

Crazy, Stupid, Love

Well I mean, the name says it all, doesn’t it? Plus, it has Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone! I may be a little biased with this one because they are two of my favorite Hollywood actors and on-screen couples of this generation. Their witty banter and natural charisma makes this film a must watch.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s

This is an oldie, but definitely a goodie. Although this film, along with Clueless, is a bit older than some of the other ones, they are just too awesome not to include in a list of best romantic comedies! It may be confusing the first time you watch it just because there is so much happening all the time, but trust me, it is worth it. Audrey Hepburn’s amazing fashion style, coupled with the strange yet beautiful love story between her and her upstairs neighbor/writer, makes this film one of the most classic romantic comedies of all time.

Put down your pitchforks, people! I know I missed a lot of other great rom-coms (it saddens me deeply to have left out so many amazing ones) but to list them all would be rather quite difficult.
