Traveling Internationally on a Student Budget

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Ottawa chapter.

The countdown to summer break has officially begun! We’re now welcoming the second half of this semester and that means thinking about our summer plans. Good news for anyone seeking a summer full of adventure: here’s a list of six places that you can visit on a student budget.

1. Florida tops the list as one the most affordable places to travel because of it’s cheap flights and even cheaper accommodations. Home to some of the cheapest Air BnBs in the world, Florida is an ideal place for students wanting to chill on the beach with a margarita in hand.

2. Cuba makes the list for its beautiful beaches and banging clubs. A popular destination for youngsters, Cuba is only a cheap flight away. The island is easy and affordable to reach, making it a top pick for students traveling on a budget. It’s vibrant streets and picturesque beaches make it easy to get the best bang for your buck!

3. Indonesia is a top place if you’re looking for a fun adventure that won’t break the bank. Food and accommodations are reasonably cheap, and the adventures are spectacular. The only catch is that you should stay away from Bali, simply because its popularity drives up prices.

4. Thailand is known as one of the cheapest places to stay. Although flights to Thailand can be costly, planning in advance and tracking flight prices can help keep costs low. Affordable hostels and cheap food make Thailand a top pick for students looking to make the most out of every dollar.

5. Portugal makes the list for its exquisitely cheap wine and food – name a better duo! If you’re looking to avoid crowded resorts, Portugal is a must-see. Portugal is one of the best bargains in Europe for its cheap (yet amazing) food options and affordable historic hotels. The world-famous custard tart is definitely an added bonus.

6. Greece might surprise you, but away from the luxurious tourist attractions, you can find vibrant and affordable places to stay. Karpathos is home to some of the best traditional Greek dishes at low prices. If you’re interested in staying in small hillside villages covered in vibrant flowers, Greece is the place for you!

Traveling on a budget can be difficult, but planning ahead is key to getting the best value for every dollar. It’s time to get out there and see the world, without breaking your bank.
