The Top 8 Fitness Blogs You Need To Follow

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Ottawa chapter.

Why Instagram accounts? As an avid social media user, I find that what I am looking at everyday has an impact on my life. This belief lead me to start following people who inspired me to improve, which to me meant eating healthy and working out. These accounts include workout videos that I use as inspiration before I go to the gym, workout outfits that make actually going to the gym more fun, dinner ideas, snack ideas, and a little bit of philosophy on how important loving yourself really is. Below are some of my favourite accounts to follow, check them out!

1. @jenselter
Need extra booty-inspo? LOOK NO FURTHER. Following the queen of glute workouts really motivates me to get to the gym some days. She includes videos and pictures of some of her workouts, so you can figure out what works best for you in order to get a booty like that!

My main point: Her booty will make you want to get off of yours and go to the gym!

2. @wayofgrey
@wayofgrey is all about self-love, empowerment, and loving your flaws. This Instagram gal used to post lots of omg-ab pictures, but has recently posted more photos to raise awareness about peoples’ mental and emotional states. She’s battling issues such as self-confidence and what she has called “Instagram Depression.” Definitely worth a look, @wayofgrey offers a fresh new perspective on what it means to be healthy! Plus: She’s Canadian!

3. @fithealthyrecipes
I like this account because the food always looks sooooo good! It isn’t a fitness blog; however, as many say, fitness is 80% diet. This keeps me on track for those times in between the gym when I don’t know what to snack on or plan for dinner. This is a healthy source for meal inspiration for when you want to switch things up (for the better). Check out how delicious this butternut squash quinoa salad looks.

4. @michelliiiiii
Another account about food rather than workouts … FOR THE VEGANS! This is a newer blog, with fewer followers than some of the others on this list, so I find it has a more personal feel. Michelle is from Germany and is teaching us how to have a balanced diet while being vegan. Her pancakes, my favourite food, look delicious and the smoothie bowls are beautiful!

5. @kaliburns
I stumbled across this account really recently, but am really encouraged by how strong this girl is! Aussie-based, Kali offers training plans (linked in her bio) and some more information on why she chooses the workouts she does. An example of this is the post below, where she tells her followers why and how she has changed her training methods. I like this informative approach because it helps knowing WHY your fit-spo people are doing what they’re doing (which can help you do the same)!

6. @izabelgoulart
TALK ABOUT LEAN! This Victoria’s Secret Angel is so lean and strong, proving that strong really is the new sexy! Some of the other Angels have softer curves, but Iza is showing the stronger side of being an Angel. She’s such a monster in the gym! She even has the hashtag #BodyByIza because … well … she deserves it. Some of her workout videos just look down right challenging. Her Instagram exhibits strength training and pilates videos, fashion photos, and inspiring bikini pics to get us moving!

7. @fithealthyworkouts
Run by Shonda, @fithealthyworkouts is a page that reposts multiple fitness accounts so you can have all of your inspiration in one place! I really like that this page has workouts for home for those who are more comfortable working out with some privacy (great for beginners)! I find this is the caters-to-all fitness Instagram because it includes workouts, recipes, and links to other fitness accounts! If you want to incorporate ONE fitness Instagram account into your feed, this would be my choice.

8. @linnlowes
This is my favourite fitness Instagram right now. Linn is a cancer survivor and still kicks butt in the gym! Her workouts are simple (and well-shot, so you can recreate them in Monpetit or Minto)! She’s seriously my girl-crush right now! She works hard in the gym and it clearly pays off. I love how many videos she posts, it makes you really feel in-the-loop with her workouts! She will also tag where she gets some of her workout gear, so you can borrow her look!
