Stuck in a Rut? Halloween Makeup Ideas for YOU!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Ottawa chapter.

I think we can all agree that once October 1st rolls around, Halloween pretty much takes over our lives (and the internet). We’re happy that it’s officially sweater weather and even happier that pumpkin spice lattes are back on the menu. But, there’s just something about Halloween that gets everyone excited. Oh, I know-it’s the costumes! To paraphrase the immortal words of Cady Heron from Mean Girls, “Halloween is the only day of the year where we can wear whatever we want and get away with it.” With that kind of freedom, who wouldn’t be excited?

Personally, I think there are some runways looks in the fashion industry that we can only pull off on Halloween. That is, unless you’re Lady Gaga. On Halloween, nothing is over-the-top or too much. In fact, this holiday encourages you to be dramatic and creative. The only rule on Halloween is to go big or go home. Now, the trick to having an awesome and unique costume is having good makeup and accessories. The question is, what exactly do you need? These beauty bloggers pulled out all the stops when it comes to their Halloween makeup. Take a look at what they did and get inspired.

The Mad Hatter

If you’re anything like the Mad Hatter (creative and just a little mad), this look is for you. The bright colours and asymmetrical design are unique and eye catching. This particular look was done by Alexis F and is obviously inspired by Tim Burton’s version of Alice in Wonderland. YouTube beauty blogger Nicole Guerriero also has an awesome makeup tutorial  if you want to recreate this look.

Doe, a deer!

Forget being a mouse or kitty cat and think about being a cute woodland creature instead! Seriously, who wouldn’t love this Bambi-inspired look? It is an easy, fun, and absolutely adorable choice for any girl. This look was done by Shannon O’Brien which also includes a makeup tutorial on her page. Beauty blogger, Katherine Elizabeth, also created a doe makeup tutorial on her YouTube channel.

Jessica Rabbit

Looking for something a little more glamorous and perhaps even sexy? Then, Jessica Rabbit inspired makeup may be the right choice. This look is pretty simple but dramatic. All you need is a red dress and some seriously strong eyebrow game. Youtube beauty bloggers, Promise Phan and Andrea both have great tutorials to recreate this sultry look.

Half-Skeleton

Last, but not least, is the half-skeleton makeup look! This look is a lot more intricate but it is definitely worth the extra effort. Having only half your faces done creates a great visual effect. YouTube Beauty blogger, Denean Dale, does an awesome half-skeleton and half-Mariln Monroe makeup tutorial. Bonnie Cobran SFX also shows you how to create this bone-chilling makeup design.
