Campus Cutie: Alexandre Roy ’15

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Ottawa chapter.

Full name: Alexandre Roy

Program: Human Kinetics

Relationship status: Single

Hollywood crush: Cameron Diaz

HC: What do you look for in your significant other?

AR: Ambition and humour. She needs to be able to laugh about me and herself. She also needs to be smart, a problem solver, health and fitness conscious, open-minded and spontaneous. Knowing how to cook is a must. She must like to travel, like the outdoors and be into self-growth. It’s really about how her smile makes me feel, but most importantly, she never tries to be anyone but herself!

HC: What are your biggest turn offs?

AR: Any negativity and complaining. Someone who is too worried about other people’s opinions, who tries to be someone else and who doesn’t care about her health. 5 inches of make up on her face is a no go for me, same goes for excessive drinking. I can’t be with someone who is closed minded, who has no ambition, who’s dependent and who has a bad relationship with her family and/or mine.

HC: What are your hobbies?

AR: Romantic walks on the beach… Or snow? (laughs), but seriously, a nature walk. Reading, personal development, classical guitar, does studying count? I love to workout, and to meditate. I enjoy visiting, dining and dancing with family, meeting friends and meeting new people. Just enjoying life pretty much and appreciating the small things in life!

HC: How are you involved on campus?

AR: I was a class representative with my department for two years, a 101 Week guide for two years and a Welcome Week Leader for one year. I’ve been a member of Sigma Chi International Fraternity since my first year. Finally, I’ve been a Health Science Faculty student mentor for two years and the director of the Health Science Faculty on the Board of Administration for a semester!

HC: What are your goals this year?

AR: Well firstly, I need to finish my last semester (laughs). Find a cool job this summer while making 1000$/month residually, do well on the MCAT, go to Geneva for an internship with UNAIDS and for the rest of the year; going to Germany for random jobs and to find my long lost family out there! Thus, having the best time, meeting so many people, and being super spontaneous.

HC: Who is your role model?

AR: I don’t believe that anyone is perfect, so I prefer looking up to multiple people for their own set of qualities. Firstly, Bob Proctor and Eric Thomas, not only because I met both of them but because of Bob’s serenity and wisdom about human paradigms and Eric’s motivation and intensity. Walt Disney for his creativity and perseverance, Bill Gates for his ingenuity and philanthropic nature, and Martin Luther King Jr. for his leadership and facing adversity.

HC: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

AR: Have an amazing wife that travels with me all over to work and visit anywhere, including joining me when I do Doctors Without Borders! Also, kids on the way when we’re ready!
