Once upon a time the idea of watching Netflix and chilling was a pressure free date idea, You didn’t have to worry about getting too fancied up or spending too much money or ordering something from a menu you couldn’t pronounce. It took the stress off the date, let you relax, watch a movie and just get to know the other person.
However ‘Netflix and Chill’ has taken a whole new meaning. Everyone seems to know about ‘Netflix and Chill’. Professors know (Strangelove at uOttawa dropped this gem in a lecture once), moms know, grandmas know – EVERYONE! Netflix and chill no longer means what it once meant; now it just means “let’s put on Netflix and pretend to watch it”.
While it is not a completely new idea – as some people will know it better as Blockbuster and chill – the relaxed and pressure free date idea has introduced a new sense of paranoia to a once innocent act. If he says; “Netflix and chill”, will we just chill? Will we actually watch Netflix? Or does this require some fancy underwear underneath my sweat pants? Unfortunately I don’t have the answers but there are some things that can help you with some issues that might arise in wanting in the process.
1. Determine the type of ‘Netflix and Chill’.It’s important to determine which ‘Netflix and Chill’ is being referred to before things gets really awkward.

2. Everyone has a Netflix and Chill partner, but you don’t.
Don’t stress. Like with everything in the 21st century, there’s an app for that. It’s called Tiki talk and, unfortunately for android users, it is only available for iPhones. The app is very similar to Tinder and it uses your location to find people in your area. Whether you actually want to Netflix and chill or if you are looking to “Netflix and Chill” it’s up you and your new friend to decide.
3. You want to Netflix and Chill but you’d like make sure you are on the same page.
You can simply do what this person on the web did and make an application form. Detailing what will be required of your Netflix and Chill partner. Make sure that like the sample above it covers the hard hitting questions like: Do you want to be a big spoon or a little spoon? Do you talk during movies? etc. Make everything as specific as possible in the Netflix and Chill arrangement so that it removes the potential for an awkward situation.
