New year, new trends! Even though some of 2016’s not-so-great moments have found their way into the new year, this doesn’t mean we can’t ditch these beauty fads for 2017! Here are 10 beauty trends that our wiser 2017 selves really shouldn’t approve of.

1. Coloured Freckles

This twist on natural freckles is perfect for those summer music festivals, raves, and channeling your inner Ke$ha, but since the natural look is taking center stage again, so should natural freckles.

2. Lip Fillers

We have Kylie to thank (and maybe blame) for the lip filling craze that exploded throughout 2016. As much as we love the luscious and plumped up lips that she has now, beauty is NOT worth that much pain, as I’m sure the Kylie lip challenge victims would agree.

3. Over lined lips

Lip-filling bruises fade, but there’s nothing that can fix over lined lips. Unless you’re a pro at lip lining, contouring, and then concealing in all the right areas (and you have the time), this one is a little hard to pull off with decent results.

4. Waist training

Waist training is painful if you’re not cautious about the size, quality, and length of time you’re wearing it. Despite both the effortlessness and effectiveness it’s been advertised for, it only “shapes” your waist by squishing your insides together, (umm…no thanks!).

5. Overboard hair curling items

We’re all for bringing back Shirley Temple curls, but Cheetos finger prints are seriously the worst, let alone having them sit in your hair! Well truthfully, any person with morals wouldn’t be wasting chips in any way period. So unless 2017 has better edible food styling techniques, we have to say bye to this one.

6. Watermelon or galaxy coloured hair

2016 was the year of galaxy themed phone cases, clothes, Nike’s Roshe shoes, and even cakes! So we can see how this trended and was picked up instantly amongst hair colour addicts. Even though I’m guilty of double tapping infinite galaxy hair photos on the ‘gram, the entire process from bleaching to maintenance is unhealthy for your hair, and if you can’t keep up, it turns out pretty cringe-worthy. If you’re a coloured hair fanatic, a balayage/grown roots look is still owning the hairstyle world. Mix it up with some pastels and you’ll never look back!

7. Glittered roots

So…where does it start? Where does it end? Doesn’t it itch? I don’t understand… Please, just no.

8. Body contouring

Some have barely mastered facial contouring, but this… just needs to be saved for another year. Sorry beauty gurus, we’re not there yet, but in the meantime this year has been dedicated to body positivity, which is far less time consuming and the results are worth it, (i.e. shamelessly pigging out = real goals)!

9. Fuzzy nails

Looking at this trend, there’s a pretty scary list of things you’d have to give up, like eating chips, typo-free texts, lighting heavenly Bath and Body Works candles, and oh, showering! So even though we can all be suckers for furry fashions, having to give up some of our daily life habits is a high price to pay for this trend! Chips stay, fuzzy nails go.

10. Vampire facials

Of course it was none other than Kim K herself that sparked the vampire facial trend. Really, there are only two reasons we need to drop this ASAP: the preference to not have my own blood smeared all over my face and the slight trust issues with anyone willing to smear it on for me.

If you find yourself still rocking any these trends, then empty up some space on your list of resolutions and add these no-no’s ASAP! Oh, and add edible beauty tools to your wish lists; if we tried the blood facials, then we can definitely handle chewable beauty tools!

Happy 2017 darlings.
