What to do if You Still Have High School Senioritis

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mich chapter.

You spend the majority of high school working hard, doing your homework, studying for tests, just trying hard to get good grades to get into college. But something magical happens in senior year – for most of us, once we get into our dream school and grades don’t matter as much, we can finally relax and school becomes less of priority. However, now that you’re in college and you got used to slacking off a bit, what do you do?

Here are some tips to help you get your head back in the game. (You’re welcome for that High School Musical reference)

1. Get Involved

Although it might be tempting, don’t stay in your room all day binge watching Netflix. College is about trying new things and gaining different experiences that you normally wouldn’t get. So browse your school’s activities page, send some emails out to clubs that you’re interested in, and actually go to their meetings. Finding something that you’re passionate about and people that share that same interest make you a more productive and motivated person.

  2. Get to know people in your classes

Having someone who you can study with or do homework together makes all the difference. Just knowing a few faces in your class can help you to stay on top of work and make you more motivated to attend.

3. Learn to manage your time

Balancing lectures, homework time, and social activities is no easy feat, and can surely leave you stressed. If you can learn to manage your time well, college will seem less overwhelming than it is. Focus on prioritizing, and by accomplishing each new task you will find the encouragement to keep going.

4. Reward Yourself

Find ways to reward yourself for finishing assignments or studying extra hard. When in doubt, food is always a great treat!
