Thankfully, December is here, which means that we can listen to Christmas music, wear festive clothing and put out cute decorations without being judged for our excitement about the holiday season. Despite our readiness to embrace this festive time of year, being in college can hinder our ability to enjoy it to the fullest. Not only do we have finals to worry about, but a lot of us live in dorms with limited space and restrictions against having stringed lights. Despite this, there are still a lot of easy DIY ideas to make your dorm extra cute and festive this month!

Wreath Spin-Off

Pairing your monogrammed initials or just the first letter of your name with some fake branches will look even cuter than a classic Christmas wreath. This decoration will look perfect over your bed or desk and even on your door! Not only is it fun for getting your room in the holiday spirit, but it’s also personalized which makes it unique. This idea is super simple and versatile because when the holiday season has passed, you can still leave the letters up on the wall.

Book Tree

Not only do you get a cute Christmas tree out of this decoration, but it is convenient for organizing all of your textbooks and other reading material! You can add embellishments such as ribbon, tinsel, or pompoms to decorate your “tree.” Putting a star on top will also help your stack of books look more tree-like!

Door Decorations

While decorating our rooms, we often forget about the most important part: the door! The entrance to our living space is the most impressionable on people because it is the first thing they see. Entering a room with a colorful door full of cute and humorous decorations will definitely make your dorm more memorable! For a super unique and classy look, put a full-length chalk board on your door. This is a great example of an interactive decoration because the students in your dorm hall can write holiday messages on it! Adding tinsel or cutout snowflakes can also add to the style of your door! Another idea for door decor is to print out images of you and your roomie’s faces and to place them onto cartoon elf and reindeer bodies. This is a great way to show your sense of humor to your neighbors!

Cutout Snowflakes, Dreidel, and Menorahs

If you don’t celebrate Christmas, there are still many other options for dorm decor during the holiday season. This DIY is great for if you and your friends are in a crafty mood. Get some paper and scissors and show off your creativity! These paper decorations can go on your walls, door and even on your ceiling. If you choose to have them hang on your ceiling, make sure it doesn’t violate any of your dorm’s codes!

Get Pumped for the New Year

Another big holiday coming up is the New Year! You can decorate for this holiday with lots of metallic and sparkly items, such as silver or gold tinsel, stars, moons and other symbols. You can either buy these or cute out paper shapes and glue glitter onto them. These decorations will look super cute throughout the whole winter because they will make your dorm feel extra festive and cozy!

When In Doubt, Go To Target!

If you don’t have time to make decorations, Target is an awesome place to find affordable accent pillows, wall art and other festive accessories that will brighten up your dorm!

Putting in a little effort to change up your dorm will definitely keep you in high spirits during finals because it will remind you that the holidays are near!
