A Letter To: A Girl on Her Period

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

Dear Girl On Her Period (Or Any Girl Ever),

Well, it’s that time again. That magical time that blesses each and everyone of us ladies. Isn’t it just the best? The cramping, the bloating, the cravings, and the mood swings? And who doesn’t love a surprise acne breakout. Isn’t it convenient how those usually pop up right before a big event or a night out? Thanks for that, Mother Nature.

I’m just here to tell you that it’s okay. It’s okay to be moody and crampy, it’s hormonal, and don’t let anyone (especially a guy) tell you to get over it. They will never understand how much it sucks! “What, are you, like, PMS-ing or something?” Are you kidding me? How about you bleed for a week straight and remain completely silent about it.

Now, the cravings. All I have to say is treat yo’self girl. We create life for crying out loud! Indulge in that triple chocolate cookie. And that Ben & Jerry’s. And that second cookie. You’ve earned it.

No two girls are the same, but that time of the month is one of the thing that unites us all. Girl power, baby! Embrace the ups and downs of being a woman. In the words of her royal highness herself, who run the world?

Now sit back with a heating pad and get the ice cream out!

HCXO,

Allie
