Lessons Every Girl Can Learn From Audrey Hepburn

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

Actress, humanitarian, royal descendant: Audrey Hepburn had it all. Through her films and in her later years, fans took note of her numerous aspiring qualities. Even today, you’ve probably seen her face on posters on dorm room walls or T-Shirts because Audrey’s legacy is still extremely relevant. Here are some things that Audrey Hepburn continues to teach us today.

1. Elegance is important

One of the most well-known things about Audrey is her elegance. We remember her as someone who always kept her cool and maintained a sophisticated reputation. By considering this in your own life, you’ll probably end up with a lot less breakdowns.

2. Always be silly; don’t take life too seriously

While keeping up with her elegance, she never failed to show her silly side. To enjoy life, you can’t take it too seriously.

3. Positivity is key

Audrey always had a positive attitude and never seemed to lose her smile. When you think that everything is going wrong in your life, try looking at the positive side of things.

4. Care for others, participate in charity work

In her later years the actress was known for her extensive charity work. She became a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and traveled to tons of countries to visit struggling children. Even when Googling Audrey, the first thing that comes up is her website dedicated to the “Audrey Hepburn Children’s Fund.”

5. Caring about fashion is essential

Audrey’s fashion was to die for, and is a solid reason for why she remains an icon. With a simple style and pearls to match, she is one of the most fashionable stars in history. Although it’s completely okay for Collegiettes to stumble out of bed for an 8 AM wearing sweatpants and a sweatshirt, remember that your fashion choices can make you an individual.

6. It’s okay to have a little sass

Along with the several elegant characters she played, many had a perfect amount of sass. Holly Golightly in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” was the epitome of this, and was a character that didn’t live up to the stereotypes of women during that time.

7. You have the ability to be strong

Overall, most will always remember Audrey Hepburn as being a strong female role model during a time when there were few. Girls today definitely have her to thank for creating a strong image for women.

So, in short, when going about the daily struggles of being a Collegiette, think “what would Audrey do?”.
