Going out and letting loose after a long week of classes is always fun, but there are some mistakes you can make when it comes to going out style. Here are some of my tips to ensure you feel confident and have a great night out!

DON’T wear uncomfortable shoes.

No matter where you live, getting to any off campus party will require a good amount of walking, unless you plan on dropping a lot of money on cabs all night. No matter how awesome those six inch stilettos make your legs look, they might not be the best choice on a Saturday night. With the cold weather coming on, not only will the heels hurt your feet, but they could be extremely dangerous on the icy ground. My tip? If you really want to wear beautiful (yet tragically uncomfortable) shoes out, bring a pair of comfy shoes to wear to walk around in that can fit in your purse. You can also go with wedges, they’re easier to wear all night compared to stiletto heels.

DO buy an inexpensive jacket that you don’t care about and wear it out.

Whenever I’m at a party where I don’t know anyone who lives in the house, I always have the internal struggle of bringing a jacket and potentially having it stolen, or to walk around freezing with no coat. And ladies, let me tell you, just because you think your drunk blanket is enough, it isn’t. Being sick the whole next week isn’t worth it, so my tip is to pick up a cheap men’s coat from Walmart or Target. It’s not the cutest, but it sure does keep me warm!

DON’T bring a giant bag.

Large purses are dangerous because you may accidentally put it down for a second and forget about it. That’s why smaller, cross-body bags are a better choice. You can still fit all your essentials, like your student ID, room key, phone, and wallet, and it’ll be more convenient than carrying a purse.

DO style your hair up.

Sometimes parties get hot and crowded quickly, and your hair quickly starts to get frizzy and curl up because of it. To avoid attempting to restyle your hair in a dirty, overcrowded bathroom, style your hair up before going out and you won’t have to worry about it for the rest of the night. Don’t wanna wear your up in just a pony tail? Pinterest has a bunch of great ideas and tutorials to try.

DON’T wear anything you don’t want ruined.

Not that every outfit that you wear out to a party is going to be ruined, but there’s always a chance. Even if you’re careful, you can’t control the actions of the people around you. Let it be a general rule: if you don’t want beer on it, you probably shouldn’t wear it.

DO wear what you want!
At the end of the day, you have total control over what you wear. Don’t let other people tell you that your outfit isn’t right for going out. As long as you feel comfortable and confident, that’s all that matters!

Have fun, Collegiettes!
