Frozen Fever: Going Back to Arendelle

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

On March 13th, Frozen Fever, the short film sequel for Frozen, will hit theaters. For some time, it has been uncertain whether or not Walt Disney Pictures will make a full-length sequel to the film. With this debate still occurring, the mass-media corporation has been generous enough to give us a seven minute short on the beloved characters of Frozen.

When Frozen came to theaters on November 27th, 2013, the film surprised many when it became the fifth-highest grossing film of all time and the highest grossing animated film of all time. During the Academy Awards show on March 2nd, 2014, Frozen won Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song, and won Best Animated Film in at least 10 other awards during 2013 and 2014. It comes to no surprise, with all this incredible success, that a new sequel would immediately be put into the works. Until confirmation comes along that we will be getting a full-length sequel, we will have to have this not-long-enough short film tide us over.

While our mini-sequel will only run for seven minutes, the film contains enough to offer a cute plot, an adorable new song, and a chance to see our favorite characters once more. The short will revolve around Anna’s birthday, a day meant for celebration, but will of course lead to some trouble when Elsa catches a cold. How does the Queen of Ice catch a cold? Guess we will have to watch to find out.

Oscar-winning songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, well known to us for their song “Let it Go” in Frozen, have also created a new song for the short, called “Making Today a Perfect Day”. Whether or not it is as good as Frozen’s soundtrack is yet to be determined by audiences, but it is predicted to easily fall into the Frozen playlist.

What goes along with these shorts, sadly, is the fact that one will have to go see another film to watch it. The only way to see this Frozen Fever is to go to a theater showcasing Walt Disney Pictures’ new production of Cinderella. Some have complained about this tactic, claiming Frozen fans shouldn’t have to pay to see a different film in order to get in a few minutes with their favorite characters, but Cinderella is actually the perfect film for Frozen Fever to prelude to. Children will love the Frozen short and will only be more excited to watch a story they know and love back-to-back with their love for Frozen.

It’s certain that Frozen Fever will only leave us wanting more. Here’s hoping that Disney is in the works to make a full-length Frozen sequel come to theaters in the near future!

Frozen Fever will be released on March 13th, playing before the new full-length Cinderella!
