Campus Celebrity: Ellanjé Ferguson

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

Name: Ellanjé Ferguson

Age: 21

Year: Senior

Major: Journalism & Communication

Minor: Afro-American Studies

Occupation: Her Campus UMass President/Campus Correspondent

HC: How did you first get involved with HC?

Ellanjé: I actually started my Her Campus career at American University as a contributing writer but only published one article the whole year! Once I transferred into UMass, I got way more involved and gained an executive board position in my sophomore year. At one point, I was a contributing writer, photographer and e-board member. The rest is historyHC: What does your role with HC UMass entail?

Ellanjé: As President of the UMass Amherst Chapter, my main purpose is to make sure everything is on track with our amazing team! I do an array of things like communicate with HC Nationals for marketing and content purposes or schedule, organize and lead our chapter meetings and events. I typically handle everything behind the scenes that makes this family run smoothly.

HC: What’s your favorite thing about your major?

Ellanjé: I love writing, editing and digital media! I love that the Journalism program at UMass is such a close-knit family. Once you pass the introductory courses, your classes are small and you get to know your professors fairly well. Oh, and we get to work with cool digital equipment which is a huge perk.

HC: If there is anything you could change about your time spent at UMass, what would it be?

Ellanjé: I wish I spent all of my college career here. Transferring into UMass was one of the best things I’ve done but, I still wish I was here from the very beginning. With it being senior year, I’ve noticed that there are somethings I haven’t crossed off of my UMass bucket-list yet.

HC: What do you like to do in your free time?

Ellanjé: My favorite way to spend time is traveling! But until I get to explore again, I like to spend my free time baking. It’s a stress-reliever and getting a warm treat afterwards is always a good thing too.

HC: What is your favorite thing about your Co-CC?

Ellanjé: Working with Catie is a pleasure. This is our first year spending a lot of time together, yet we’re always on the same page. We approach all things Her Campus in a very similar way, so leading a team with her is almost effortless. Partners in crime for sure.
