23 Things to Do Before Spring Semester Ends

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

The year is winding down with just one month left of the semester; I seriously cannot believe how fast it went by. Feels like just yesterday I was breaking out my calendar and highlighter writing down due dates and events, and now we are in the next registration period looking forward to the summer, next semester and preparing for finals. While you’re stressing about summer plans and getting ready for finals, make sure you get out (especially you seniors) and enjoy some last minute adventures in Amherst.

1. Go to the Yankee Candle Factory in Deerfield, even if you do not want to buy anything it is fun to walk around in the Christmas Village and look around at all the features and maybe grab a bag of the jalapeno cheese popcorn.

2. Go to the Montague Bookmill, it is a beautiful spot with a river running next to it and is a great place to relax and study. Also a new restaurant is opening up in the downstairs area that I heard is highly recommended.

3. Walk to Northampton on the walking trail in Amherst. With the snow all melted it makes for a peaceful walk or run.

4. Visit Atkins farm, there is some great food there.

5. Come to Olde Towne Tavern’s 25 cent wing Tuesday, it is a great deal.

6. Along with number 5, come to Olde Towne Tavern’s free buffet on Fridays from 3-6pm. Yes I said free, order a pitcher or drink of choice and indulge in waffle fries, mozzarella sticks, wings, fried pickles, sweets and more.

7. Try out the new café called The Works. They offer bagel sandwiches… that’s all I have to say.

8. Go to a lacrosse game. This weather is best for afternoon games.

9. Attend a spin class offered outdoors. It’s a great way to work out and get outside.

10. Ride to the 22nd floor of the library for the best view then to the top floor.  It makes for a great study break.

11. Go to the wine tasting offered Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 12-5 at Amherst Farm Winery.

12. Eat at Bub’s BBQ in Hadley. If you plan on going to the Yankee Candle Factory, this is on the way… just saying.

13. Lay out on Southwest beach and enjoy an iced coffee with friends.

14. Order wings at 3am, or get some late night food such as Antonio’s, Bueno y Sano, or White Hut.

15. Walk around Extravaganja.

16. Attend Spring Concert.

17. Eat at every dining hall on campus.

18. If there is a tailgate, go!

19. Go on a hike. There are lots in this area. You can find them listed here

20. Split (or have one to yourself) a scorpion bowl with friends at Panda.

21. Try out all these breakfast places: Cushman’s Diner, Bruegger’s Bagels, Route 9, Stables, Lone Wolf, and Kelly’s.

22. Spend a couple hours laying out at Puffer’s Pond with friends.

23. Lastly, ATTEND WORKOUT ON THE QUAD. It is an event being hosted on April 26th from 11am-3pm. You can work out, release stress, socialize, and get the chance to win some great prizes right before finals.

Enjoy the end of the semester Collegiettes, and remember to take some breaks, relax, and go on these adventures. You deserve it!

I am a junior at the University of Massachusetts Amherst majoring in Psychology and Communications. I joined Her Campus because my roommate is also involved in the club and told me all about it. I also have not had a lot of college experience in college writing and thought it would be a great opportunity to learn a different style and better my writing in general. I am also involved in the Lions Club and sisters on the runway.
