19 Signs You Were A Sleep Away Camp Counselor

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

1. You are always counting down the days until next summer.

2. You traveled long and far to get to camp in upstate New York, Maine, Long Island, or Connecticut.

3. You work your butt off all summer and don’t get paid anything.

4. Actually, to be fair you do get paid in irreversible glitter damage and strep throat.

5. You could start a theatre troop with the trunk of dress up clothes you’ve inevitably collected over the years.

6. You always end up recruiting the BEST international counselors.

7. You started going to camp when you were seven and made some awesome friends along the way.

8. And you are still best friends with those girls thirteen summers later.

9. And although you’ll be graduating college soon, you can’t help but keep going back every summer (even though it’s time to get a real job and be a real human).

10. You know what it’s like to constantly be counting your kids.

Jill?….Jill! Where is… Oh there you are.

11. You live for the cereal bar because those eggs are questionable.

Is this what they eat on Mars?

12. Everyone knows that the best camp hook-up spot is that creepy old cabin that no one dares to enter. Or the buses.

13. You’ve probably been to over a hundred camp fires but each one is more special than the last.

14. Camp Magic is too real.

15. Rainy days are an automatic excuse for a Disney movie marathon.

16. Maintaining camp traditions are more important to you then eating and showering combined.

17. Tether ball is bae.

18. When the end of the summer comes, you feel like life itself is over.

Post Camp Depression is real.

19. But, you will never forget all the amazing people you met and memories you made over the summer!

Can’t wait until next year!

U Mass Amherst

My name is Katy Rieber and I am currently a freshman at UMass. Right now I am undeclared but I am looking to go into public relations, journalism, communications, and studio art for photography. I am from New York City and I have a huge interest in fashion. I love seeing Fall Fashion Week in Manhattan and spotting cute street style. My fashion icons include Whitney Port, Lauren Conrad, Sarah Vickers, and Blair Waldorf. I am so excited to be writing for Her Campus and I'm looking forward to writing more articles as the year goes on.
