Why You Should Write for Her Campus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Maine chapter.

I joined Her Campus last semester and I could not be happier with my decision! It’s so nice to be part of a group of women who are so motivated, passionate, diverse, and hilarious. We have writers from all different majors and divisons on campus, so everyone is welcome! Here are a few of the many reasons you should join Her Campus here at UMaine next semester!

1. It’s so laid back!

This is by far the smallest time commitment of any on campus organization that I have heard of. We have meeting once a week at Aroma Joes to brainstorm content for the week which usually only takes half an hour. Also, you’re only required to write once every two weeks!

2. The girls in our chapter are great!

I love going to meeting and talking about everything going around on campus and in the world. It’s amazing to be surrounded by such a range of women with different interests!

3. The writing style is so refreshing.

After writing formal essays for years on end, it’s so nice to not use a thesaurus when writing. You can write features which can be about anything and can be as long as you want. You can even just write a list or a recipe! Besides features, you can write profiles about people on campus which are always so fun. It’s great to get to know people new people on campus making a difference.

4. People do notice your articles!

There’s no better feeling than going on the Facebook and having all of your friends sharing and commenting on your articles. I love expressing myself through writing and having people compliment something I’m so passionate about is special.

5. All the free goodies!

Every semester our Her Campus sponsors send a survival kit with a ton of free things for us in them. They range from makeup to books to jewelry, and so much more. It’s definitely the best meeting of the semester when we hand out the kits!

These are just a few of the reasons why you should write for Her Campus at UMaine! Email u-maine@hercampus.com if you’re interested or have any questions!
