This week we get to celebrate one of the most exciting holidays of all here at Her Campus: our birthday! According to the Her Campus website, three undergraduate students started Her Campus at Harvard University in September 2009: Windsor Hanger Western, Stephanie Kaplan Lewis and Annie Wang.
Since its founding, Her Campus has become the #1 new-media brand for college women. There are now more than 7000 contributors and counting writing for Her Campus on college campuses internationally. Besides the college writers, who cover sections in Beauty, Style, Love, Life, Health, Career, Entertainment, News, DIY and LGBTQ+, Her Campus also features High School and After College content which comes from over 300 campus chapters nationally and nine countries.
In addition to the website, Her Campus has grown to offer an email newsletter, a High School Ambassador program, College Fashion Week which takes place in Boston, New York, Chicago and Los Angeles, Her Conference, Her Conference High School, Her Campus Shop, The Influence Her Collective, and The Her Campus Guide to College Life.
Her Campus has won several awards, including Harvard College’s business plan competition, Gold Winner & Best All-Around Team in Mass Challenge, Top Small Business of the Year by the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, and was named to Entrepreneur Magazine’s list of The Best Entrepreneurial Companies in America.
Her Campus is a fantastic resource for college women and empowers us to achieve our goals, be active members on campus and have our voices heard. I have loved writing for Her Campus because it has given me journalism experience, allowed me to write about whatever I want, and allowed me to be published on one of the most followed college websites. The extensive opportunities that Her Campus has granted college students in the past seven years is amazing.
I have grown from a contributor with Her Campus UMaine to becoming a Campus Correspondent and Editor-in-Chief for the chapter here. I am so proud to represent such an awesome company!
