5 Fun Fall Activities To Do This Weekend

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Maine chapter.

There are few things better than fall, especially when you go to school in a state as beautiful as Maine.  September and October provide the perfect not too hot, not too cold weather and make it easy to style cute outfits for all the bonfires, trips to the corn maze and other fun fall activities going on.  The colorful leaves create a stunning backdrop for many superb ways to spend a beautiful autumn day (or night) in the greater Orono area. Check out the list below about the five best things to do on the first (official) weekend of fall!

1. Acadia Night Sky Festival:

When: September 22nd – 25th

Where: Acadia National Park

Price: Some events are free but you need a park pass for some events inside the park.

It’s no wonder that Acadia National Park draws thousands of tourists from around the world each year with its stunning views and unique geological features. This is the eighth annual Acadia Night Sky Festival and has been a tremendous success in previous years. Many of my friends attended this event last year and talked highly about the amazing experience they had observing the sky and interacting with others doing the same thing. Check out http://www.acadianightskyfestival.com/Home.aspx for more information!

2. Orono Farmers Market:

When: 8 am – 12 pm Saturdays (until Nov. 19th)

Where: Steam Plant Lot, UMaine Campus

Price: Free

There is nothing better than fresh fruits & veggies to fuel you up for the first week of exams that is quickly approaching! Grab a delicious crepe for brunch and stock up on fresh foods for the week. For more information see http://snakeroot.net/orono/

3. Climb Chick Hill:

When: Between dawn and dusk in fair weather

Where: Chick Hill, Clifton, ME

Price: Free

There are two quite easy trails that you can take to climb up the hill. The amazing views will only be more astounding because of the leaves changing color!

4. Apple picking and corn maze:

When: 10 am – 7 pm Tuesday through Sunday (closed Mondays)

Where: Treworgy Family Orchards

Price: Pick your own apples are $1.30/lb and the corn maze costs $8.00 per person

Each year the corn maze is made into an exciting new shape – this year it is “The Good Knight and the Dragon”. There is also an ice cream and cider shop as well as hayrides and a petting zoo with many adorable animals. Check out http://treworgyorchards.com/ for more information!

5. The home opener football game:

When: September 24th at 12 pm

Where: Alfond Stadium

Price: Free with your MaineCard

Go cheer on the Black Bears and make sure to check in on the Black Bear Nation app to get awesome prizes (like gift cards to local restaurants or UMaine apparel!)

Happy fall!
