15 Things UMaine Students Say During Spring Semester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Maine chapter.

Ah, spring semester. The most misleading time of all seeing as it’s spring for barely two weeks and dead winter for the rest of the time. This time of year is the time for false hopes of snow days and very low morale to do absolutely anything. At UMaine, we truly know the pain of forcing yourself out of your warm bed just to freeze on your way to class and scrape the ice and snow off of your car. Here are 15 things we’ve all said at some point during spring semester:

1. So, are we having a snow day ever? No? Even with two feet of snow and freezing rain? No?

Sweet.

2. We’re still having school in this blizzard… does that mean the roads, sidewalks and parking lots will be plowed? No? Okay cool.

3. It’s -2 outside but 70 in my apartment… I really think I should just stay in bed today.

4. What excuse do you think would work the best as to why I’m not going to class in this weather?

5. So Husson, EMCC and all surrounding high schools have cancelled… but we still have classes? Is this a sick joke?

6. I really want to wear my boots and my huge fluffy winter jacket but the jacket will take up too much room in my seat and my boots will be a squeaky, slushy mess.

Also I’ll probably end up overheating in these poorly temperature-regulated buildings so this is really just a lose-lose situation. Maybe I should just stay home.

7. For Spring Break should I stay home to relax and freeze or should I blow all the money I don’t have and travel?

8. Who’s playing at the Maine Day concert?

9. If I have lab on Wednesdays will I have it on Maine Day? If I do, do you think I should just skip it?

10. If I wear heeled booties to class, how hard do you think I’d fall on the ice?

11. I seriously cannot wait for Maine Day.

12. I swear, this year I’m actually going to do a service project on Maine Day. I’m serious this year.

13. Make sure you check FirstClass, your Gmail, Blackboard, your texts, and the UMaine homepage to see if classes are cancelled today.

14. I know it’s freezing out, but should we get our iced coffee from Dunkin or Aromas today?

15. So really, are we ever going to have a damn snow day?

If you’ve ever said any of these, you’re not alone. It’s only week three and I know I’ve said every single one of them. Have a great semester UMaine; stay safe and warm!
