10 Places to Take Him on Valentine’s Day Instead of Red Lobster

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Maine chapter.

Seeing as the closest Red Lobster location from Orono is far far away, where can you take him instead?! Fear not, Valentine’s Day isn’t ruined! We’ve got a list of ten great local restaurants you can choose from.

Orono

1. Woodman’s

Splurge on the filet mignon- it’s covered in a red wine demi-glace! Now that is what I call a Valentine’s Day dinner. They also make a mean lemon drop if you’re into pretty martinis.

2. Thai 2 Go

This takeout place is a #1 go-to when it comes to authentic Thai food in the Orono/Bangor area. Your food is guaranteed to be delicious and ready in 15 minutes. Plus, beat the restaurant craziness and have a cozy dinner in.

3. Margaritas

Tacos and tequila. Need I say more?

4. Family Dog

Switch it up and have a Valentine’s Day brunch! I suggest the breakfast burger. Don’t forget a classic mimosa or a “Berry Good Dog,” muddled blueberries and champagne. Fancy.

5. OHOP

Nothing says a true Black Bear Valentine’s Day like OHOP. Pizza and love, a winning combination.

Bangor

6. The Fiddlehead Restaurant

If you go here, you’ve got to do it right and order three courses. It really is a unique and delicious experience. If you’re stuck sitting at the bar, you’re actually lucky- the bartending staff is wonderful.

7. Blaze

It’s impossible to choose between their duck fat fries and brick oven pizza, so why not order both? Be sure to try one of their interesting house cocktails, too.

8. Timber

This place has a great atmosphere and will be sure to impress any date. They have a large menu to choose from (I suggest the roasted squash ravioli) and an eclectic drink menu. Try the River Driver (Grey Goose Vodka, Domaine De Canton Ginger, Fresh-Pressed Lime & Lemon, Basil Leaves, Elderflower Foam).

9. 11 Central

This place is pretty small and doesn’t take reservations, but they’re worth the wait. It’s got a great date night ambience and tasty food!

10. Miguel’s

If you’re in the mood for Mexican, Miguel’s is the way to go. Locally-sourced veggies and seriously addicting salsa. They also have killer piña coladas, if you’re into that sort of thing.
