Monthly Music Obsessions: September

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Iowa chapter.

These are my personal song favorites of September, and when I mean favorites, I mean listening to them on repeat until I get bored of it. Check these songs out if you haven’t heard them already. I promise you that they’re really good.

Look What You Made Me Do — Taylor Swift

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3tmd-ClpJxA

I was literally obsessed with this song. I loved how dark but catchy it was. There’s been a lot of talk about who this song is about and what the message is through the video. There’s also been a lot of bashing on Taylor, because it seems that she’s strayed away from her general music type. However, to be honest, I’m a huge fan of the song and the edgy feel she has going on. The song is catchy and overally awesome.

Dusk Till Dawn — Zayn ft. Sia

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tt2k8PGm-TI

This song. Oh, how lovely is this song. Zayn and Sia’s voices compliment each other so well in this song, it’s absolutely beautiful. The lyrics are so meaningful and I find the chorus super catchy. I love everything about this song.

Too Good at Goodbyes — Sam Smith

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_ub7Etch2U

Another great song. This song makes me want to tear up and it makes me miss someone I don’t even know. First of all, it’s been a while since Sam Smith has released any songs, so you can imagine how excited his fans must have been after they realised he had released new music. Second, it’s no surprise, but his voice is absolutely brilliant. It’s just a lovely song with amazing lyrics that make so much sense, but I’m not surprised, because it’s Sam Smith. His voice is just so smooth and perfect. Can’t deal.

Bones — Kenzie Nimmo

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdGBU44u7S8

This song was released as a single this month, by YouTuber Kenzie Nimmo. I put it on the list because it’s a wonderful song she’s written and composed. She’s absolutely talented, and if you have time to check out her previous videos, you should do that. This original song has meaning, a catchy tune and lyrics that flow perfectly. She also has an acoustic/live version which I like better, but check them both out!

Too Much To Ask — Niall Horan

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljXSjIph5ZM

Looks like the members of One Direction are doing really well as solo performers, because this song is awesome. This song always makes me want to reach out into my screen to give Niall a huge hug. His voice is adorable and the song is fresh. It’s so simple, but holds so much emotion. I think it has to be my favorite out of all his songs.

Good Old Days — Macklemore ft. Kesha

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yYV9-KoSUM

Kesha’s finally back! This song was released only a few days ago, and I’ve only heard this song a couple of times, but it has me hooked. It’s a song to chill out, and definitely a car ride song. It reminds you of road trips and sends a message across to you about enjoying the little things in life.

Reggaeton Lento (Remix) — CNCO ft. Little Mix

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UONnRMuuDps

This has been my latest obsession, and by that I mean it’s been on repeat for the last few days. I love Little Mix, so I get very excited when they release new songs. They are so gifted and they sound amazing live, which is rare with artists these days. CNCO have really nice voices, and this is the first time I’ve heard their work, so I’m liking what I’m hearing so far. It’s interesting to know that there are a totally of nine singers in this song, yet they all get a chance to show off their awesome voices. Basically, this song makes you want to get a red dress (yes like the one in the dancing girl emoji) and dance the night away.
