Making The Transition from Summer to Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Delaware chapter.

When summer comes to an end it brings with it the crisp, cool weather of fall, the changing colors of the leaves, and the Pumpkin Spice latte we all love; but making the transition from summer to fall clothes can be a challenge. One day it feels like summer again and the next you’re shivering on the way to class. Here are a few tips on how to make the switch from season to season that much easier so that you’re cute and comfortable for that 8 am.

  • Dresses are versatile.

When it comes to dresses, don’t just toss them in the back of your closet the moment you see a leaf fall on the ground. Fall doesn’t mean you can’t wear them. it just means learning to pair them with an extra piece or two. Try adding a pair of tights underneath or pairing it with an oversized cardigan. Plus, you can never go wrong with a baby doll dress and knee high boots.

  • Flannels are your best friends.

They’re warm enough to be worn without a jacket on a fall day and don’t require the layering that most transitional outfits do. Tuck it into your favorite jeans, wear it over leggings, layer your flannel over a comfy t-shirt dress or pair it with a skirt. Add a pair of booties to complete your look.

  • Infinity scarves go with EVERYTHING.

Throw one over a dress, sweater, or plain tee and it’ll complete your outfit. It’ll keep you warm walking around campus and you have so many different ways to wear it! Even when it gets unbearably cold you can keep warm and still look good.

  • Invest in a good vest.

Vests are perfect to go over a fall ensemble. You won’t be too hot or too cold and they are light enough that you won’t feel weighed down like a jacket. They add a preppy flare to any outfit. Once winter comes, it’ll be too chilly to wear them, so fall is an excuse to get a good wear out of your vest! They can be worn with just about anything.

  • Don’t put your sandals away too early.

Keep wearing sandals through September and even October by pairing with them jeans or leggings and a sweater. This way you can still show off your pedicure while keeping warm!

Hope this provides some fashion inspiration that will get you through the still-not-fall but not-quite summer weather!
