Kerri Mottola

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Delaware chapter.
Meet Kerri Mottola, president of UD’s honors fraternity! If you’re looking for the inside scoop on being involved with this organization, Kerri is the one to ask.

Her Campus: When did you join Phi Sigma Pi?

Kerri Mottola: I went to an info session for PSP when I was a freshman, and I was hooked after hearing Brothers talk about how passionate they were about the Fraternity!  I loved how Phi Sigma Pi meant something different to each Brother, and how each Brother added value to the chapter in a diverse way.  I became a Brother in Spring of 2014!

HC: What compelled you to join as opposed to a social greek organization?

KM: I think that each Greek chapter on this campus has their own strong, positive and unique foundation of values.  I just happened to identify with Phi Sigma Pi’s values upon learning about them at an info session. Phi Sigma Pi is an equal balance of fellowship, leadership, and scholarship, and I think that’s what kept me coming back to recruitment.

HC: What made you decide to run for president?
KM: Brothers of Phi Sigma Pi are such strong leaders. I knew that running for President would allow me to foster that leadership and give Brothers the resources and opportunities to better our chapter.  I love to watch our chapter grow and evolve over time, and to contribute to that growth is such an honor.

HC: What is your favorite part of the organization?

KM: My favorite part of the organization is its emphasis on scholarship.  It’s a common misconception that the scholarship aspect of PSP is strictly academic, but it’s more of a general love for learning. Whether it’s a Brother hosting a “How to” scholarship event, or holding a discussion about a topic they’re interested in, I’m always learning something new from Brothers.  I love being surrounded by open-minded people who are happy to teach and to learn.

HC: Do you have a favorite memory from being a brother?

KM: There are so many!  I would say that Brotherhood retreats are my favorite, though.  We spend a day off campus completing a scholarship and a service event.  It’s always so much fun and an awesome way to spend time with Brothers!

HC: What advice would you give to people interested in rushing?
KM: Talk to any Brother of Phi Sigma Pi!  We are always happy to talk more or answer questions about PSP to anyone interested in rushing.  Also, come to an info session in the Fall!  You’ll learn all about what we do and what our values are, and meet other potential new members that are interested in rushing as well!
