This week, we sat down with Sophomore Neuroscience major and Anthropology minor, Jessica Prucha.  She shares the inside scoop on being a tour guide at UD, otherwise known as a Blue Hen Ambassador!

Her Campus: When/how did you first become a Blue Hen Ambassador?

Jessica Prucha: I became a tour guide second semester freshman year after applying and going through an interview process! I was trained for a semester and started officially giving tours first semester sophomore year.

HC: What are some of the most common questions you get?

JP: The most common question I get is “do you like it here?” to which I respond “yes! of course.”  My second most frequent question is “what do you do with your free time?”  I answer with the clubs and activities I am involved with and hanging out with my friends

HC: Has it been a rewarding experience, and if so, how?

JP: Being a tour guide has definitely been a rewarding experience for me.  It is really fun and exciting to see a potential student be so excited about the opportunity to come to UD!  And it’s great when they put down their deposits after their tours!

HC: How do you share your passion of UD with potential students?

JP: Sharing my passion for UD with prospective students is easy.  Once I get started talking about everything I am involved with on campus, it is easy to tell that I love being a part of the UD community, and potential students and their parents really enjoy seeing that.

HC: What is the time commitment like?

JP: The time commitment can vary depending on how involved you want to be with the Office of Admissions.  It is required to give one tour a week and that will range from 1-2 hours.  However, you must also be prepared to work Decision Days and those are all day commitments usually on Saturdays (hours from 6:15am to around 3pm).  There are also opportunities to work more hours in the office if you are interested in that.

HC: What is your favorite part about this job?

JP: My favorite part of this job is getting to work with potential students and share with them my excitement and love for the University of Delaware!  It’s awesome when you connect with a prospective student and share your stories of being a student at UD.

HC: What advice do you have for students who want to become Blue Hen Ambassadors?

JP: For people who want to be tour guides, the best advice I could give you would to be yourself on the application and in the interview! Sharing what makes you unique and what you are involved with will help you stand out against other applicants!
