My name is Meghan Powers, I am 20 years old and Lilly is probably braver than I will ever be. There are not enough words in the world to describe how much I admire this 9 year old little girl. She has been fighting a life long battle with Neurofibromatosis, undergone numerous rounds of chemotherapy, surgeries, and hospital visits. But Lilly is so much more than her cancer. Lilly or LBoogie is the life of the party and the light to the darkness that is pediatric cancer. She is the bright purple in the rainbow and she truly dances like no one else is watching.
The first time I met Lilly was my freshmen year at UDance 2014. I don’t think I grasped the concept of the B+ Foundation or UDance until I looked up on stage to see one of the cutest little girls singing and dancing all over the place. She inspired heroes around her to dance and the entire crowd to continue to dance for her. I knew in that moment what it meant to be apart of something and if I was able to help one family in the process than it was all worth it.
Flash forward another year to UDance 2015. I had just participated in formal sorority recruitment and was lucky enough to finally call myself a member of Gamma Phi Beta. This also meant something even more special to me, not only did I gain hundreds of new friends but I also gained Lilly as my sister and B+ Hero. This year Lilly performed Let it Go from Frozen on stage as I swayed behind her in awe of her courage. Her motto is “I am not afraid, I will be brave,” and let me just tell you that she means it. I encourage everyone to be like Lilly every day. Love your family, love yourself, and dance like noone is watching.
