Vigil for Global Suffering and Attacks

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Conn chapter.

Students and faculty gathered in front of the Library this Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at 6 for a Vigil on Recent Attacks and Global Suffering. This powerful event was held by Salaam, a group aimed at ending Islamaphobia on campus and around the world, as well as our very own Undergraduate Student Government. A range of speakers from members of the Muslim Student Association to the Vice President for Students Affairs encouraged the crowd to continue standing in solidarity with the many victims around the world.

After the speakers, the crowd proceeded to stand around the UConn Seal and light the tiny electric candles provided for the vigil.

Overall it was a beautiful, heartfelt event that helped UConn students mourn and alleviate some of the pain felt by many due to recent tragedies. As stated by one of the speakers, events like these “restore faith in humanity”.
