We all know that UConn isn’t exactly filled with a ton of restaurants, so with every February 14th comes the dilemma of where a guy should bring his valentine for the perfect dinner. I figured I would give my input this year, because I believe all of these places are affordable, delicious and have fun atmospheres. If you ladies are trying to read into where and why your date plans on taking you, I hope this helps. And for all you single ladies: grab a group of girlfriends and go to any of these places as well. Just bring extra wine, and don’t make the reservation for two.
1. Geno’s Grille: For the guy that wants to take things to the next level.
Not really sure where you stand with your date? Looking for a place closer to your apartment or dorm with great food and a great atmosphere? With a full menu and stocked bar there is no better place to spend the night talking about the more serious stuff. The linguini with red clam sauce is especially delicious. Be sure to make a reservation ahead of time.
2. Asian Bistro: For the guy that has deep pockets.
Because honestly what is a date without sushi? Share the loveboat for two or have one too many scorpion bowls and start talking about your feelings. If you are looking to save some money, you can always go for lunch special as well. Be sure to make a reservation ahead of time. If you are feeling extra ambitious, you can also walk next door and go see “Fifty Shades of Grey” at the Mansfield Movieplex right after.
3. Willimantic Brewing Company: For the guy that wants to see how chill you really are.
Any guy loves a girl who could drink beer and eat a burger like it’s nothing. So for a more fun, low-key and certainly less intimidating date, head to “Willibrew” for delicious, greasy food and an endless amount of beer options.
4. Chuck Margaritas: For the guy that knows you are “basic,” but still thinks you’re awesome.
Because all “basic” girls love guacamole. And tequila. And quesadillas. But seriously Chuck’s has some of the best Mexican food and margaritas around. Be sure to make a reservation ahead of time.
5. Dog Lane Cafe: For the guy that wants to get to know you better.
With their motto being “Come. Sit. Stay.” this is the perfect place for long conversations to really get to know someone. Aside from their great menu, you can choose from their long wine list or even have an endless cup of coffee. No need for a reservation. Just walk in!
