Spring Registration 101

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Conn chapter.

It’s that time of year again! Registration for the Spring 2012 semester started last Monday and if you’re a senior you probably have your perfect or hopefully somewhat bearable schedule all set! But if you’re a freshman or sophomore trying to get your gen-eds finished before you reach junior standing, these next few weeks can be pretty stressful. Here are just a few tips to help you get through your pick day:

1. Set Up a Meeting With your Advisor: One of the best ways to make sure you’re on the right track to graduation. Your advisor should also know if the classes you’re taking or are interested in taking are going to apply to you general education or major requirements. Most advisors have appointment slots open but you have to schedule them quickly because times do fill up, especially around registration.

2. Fill your Shopping Cart: Definitely take the time to flip through the course catalog available on go.uconn.edu and put classes in your shopping cart. Every few days check to see if the classes you selected are filling up, and if every single class you would ever need to take looks full, have a Plan B ready to go.

3. Back-up Plan: Completely fill your shopping cart! You don’t want to be scrambling around on the Student Admin, trying to search for classes and seeing them fill up before you can even hit “enroll”.

If worst comes to worst, and you realize you can’t take all the classes you need, consider taking a course during Winter Intercession or even during the summer. UConn offers courses at all their regional campuses. Contact your advisor or check out go.uconn.edu for more information.

Happy Registration!
