Now that we’ve moved on from the hype of the ombré, nude nails, and smoky-eyes, the latest beauty trend is here, and it’s…kind of scary.
Recently, there has been a lot of talk about a certain celeb’s new look, and we don’t think it’s going away anytime soon: you may have heard of the new “Kylie Jenner Challenge,” in which girls attempt to reach Jenner-level lip-plumpness. Though Jenner has denied or failed to comment on any plastic surgery rumors, (and has even tweeted about her boredom with fans’ obsessions) she’s claimed that her lip transformation is the magic of well-done makeup. Many tutorial videos have been posted on sites like YouTube that try to replicate the look, but the latest trend involves no makeup at all, just a shot glass if you’ve got one.
Yes, you heard correctly: the “Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge” involves girls putting shot glasses up to their mouths and sucking to create a vacuum of air that pulls blood flow outward of the lips, creating a “plumped” effect. But the results aren’t exactly desirable…many girls who have attempted the challenge have posted pictures and videos of the shocking sight and size of their lips, and it’s reason to be concerned.
USA Today posted a brief video talking about the dangers of the new challenge, and encourages viewers not to partake. The trend is leaving many girls with bruised and swollen lips and even popped blood vessels, and can last for several days without returning to normal.
Jenner was quick to voice her opinion, however, tweeting to girls who are participating or thinking about it:
Fair response? Not discouraging enough? That’s up to you. Needless to say, this trend is not worth the consequences; I guess we’ll all just have to accept that Kylie’s makeup artist is one talented lady!
