I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to interview Emily, aka @missnewfoodie, from Instagram. If you’re a self-proclaimed foodie like me, then you have probably heard of her and constantly drool over the food pictures she posts on her Instagram account. If you haven’t heard of her then you are seriously need to go check her out!

WARNING: You’ll probably want to start your own food Instagram account after reading about @missnewfoodie.

What made you start Miss New Foodie?

I started it freshman year in my dorm room for fun. Nothing super interesting really compelled me to make it; I was just kind of bored. LOL.

What was the first food item you posted on your account?

I think it’s still up. It’s a bowl of mac & cheese. It’s not even my photo; I stole it from my friend’s Instagram account.

Still ~amazing~.

When did you start to realize that your account was becoming popular?

I hit 5k followers spring break of my freshman year (2014), and then by that summer I hit 10k. That’s when I started to realized, “Hey I can really get a big following!”

Do you have a special technique for taking the perfect food picture?

I would say lighting is most of the battle. Nobody wants to scroll through their Instagram feed and see a blurry dark picture. People like to see clear, colorful images.

Do you have a favorite food account that you follow?

I’m trying to transition into more of a lifestyle brand with a concentration in food, so I like to follow accounts with both of those aesthetics. I really like to follow @coffeenclothes, it’s super trendy and clean.

If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Without getting sick? Doughnuts, for sure.

(Same missnewfoodie, same.)

Do you ever go to a restaurant and not take a picture of your meal?

For sure! Like if the lighting in the restaurant is too dark or if I order something boring like a soup or salad.

Because why post pictures of healthy food when you can post pictures of this?

What do you think the ideal time to post on Instagram is? Do you post at any specific times?

I know according to stats that rush-hour (4-6pm) is the best time to post. Honestly, I just post whenever. The more content, the more engagement I’ll get.

Did you do anything specific to gain so many followers?

I commented and liked other photos on similar accounts. It helps build engagement between Instagram users.

Now you have another Instagram account that you can stare at for hours instead of finishing your homework, happy scrolling!
