DIY: UConn Halloween Costumes

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Conn chapter.

With Halloween only a few weeks away, it’s time to start getting your costume(s) ready!

But as a UConn student, on a tight budget, what can you do to put a costume together?

With a little bit of creativity and some rummaging through your closet these costumes are a great idea!

1.)  UConn Mom

What you’ll need:  A Uconn Sweatshirt (one that says mom is ideal), a school baseball hat, fanny-pack, foam finger, jeans, and a pair of white sneakers.  Need a costume for your boyfriend too?  Go out as the ultimate UConn parents!

2.)  Eco-Friendly Hippie

Get a recycling bag from your RA recently?  Put it to good use!

What you’ll need:  UConn recycling bag and your own unique hippie style using clothes you can find in your closet!  Borrowing from friends is a good solution if you don’t own boho clothes.

3.)  Bat

With all the rainy and windy days we have here at UConn, there’s bound to be a broken umbrella in someone’s closet.  Of course unbroken ones work too, but why spend money if you don’t need to?

What you’ll need:  a black umbrella, pliers or wire cutters, hot glue gun, scissors, a black hoodie and either a sewing kit or saftey pins.  Follow these step by step instructions to achieve this look.

4.)  Athlete or Super Fan

UConn has a huge sports fan base!  There’s nothing quite like Husky Pride, so why not borrow a jersey from one of your guy friends and go as an athlete or a fan?

What you’ll need:

(Athlete):  An athletic jersey, eyeliner to draw on some eye black, leggings/yogas/jeans, and a pair of converse.  Simple as that!

(Super Fan):  Uconn T-shirt, white and blue facepaint, temporary tattoos, foam finger, blue & white wig (optional).  Anything that exemplifies the Bleed Blue motto is encouraged.

Have a great Halloween and remember to stay safe!
