8 Struggles of Going to the UConn Gym

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Conn chapter.

Forget the exercise- these struggles are enough to make a girl consider ditching the gym for good.

1. Tripping over the little tiny stair going into the entrance of the gym.

Why is that little step-up even necessary?! Nine times out of ten I trip over it, and ten times out of ten there’s people behind me watching it happen.

2.  Getting locked into a heated life-or-death race with the person on a cardio machine across the pool from you on the cardio floor.

“It looks like she’s going faster than me.  Well, she’s obviously using a lower resistance level than I am so we’re really going like the same pace.”

3.  Being super disgusted when the windows get incredibly foggy on humid days.

Just try to forget that it’s there because of everyone’s massive amounts of sweat.

4. Having to wait for machines when everyone comes back to school with their New Years’ resolutions after break.

Sooo when are they building that bigger gym?

5.  The random old ladies who are way too comfortable with being completely naked in the locker room.

Where do they come from?!

6.  Seeing an ex/random hookup at the gym.

The art of  “pretending not to see someone” is necessary for gym-goers.

7. Seeing a professor or TA at the gym.

The awkwardness speaks for itself.

And lastly,

8. Getting sprayed in the eye by a defective squirt bottle trying to clean off a machine.

Those things are dangerous.

If you go to the gym and haven’t had any of these happen to you, congratulations!  And if they have and you still go to the gym anyway, bravo to you too.
