8 Halloween DIY Decorations & Projects for College Students on a Budget

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Conn chapter.

Living on a college student’s income (if any) is difficult, especially when you’re trying to keep your room at a Martha Stewart-approved level of craftiness with the changing seasons. Here are a few Halloween DIY projects that are affordable for almost anyone’s budget and are also super cute.

1. Water Jug Light Up Cartons

This innovative idea is perfect for those water jugs that you would normally throw away.  It looks cute and will make everyone on your floor envious for your DIY skills.

2. Trash Bag Spider Webs

What a better way to use a couple garbage bags laying around your dorm than to transfer them into spider webs? These would look great on the outside of a door or by your window.

3. Lollipop Ghost

This easy Halloween DIY brings back almost anyone to their childhood days of decorating at a daycare or the first grade perhaps. It’s a cute, edible, and certainly an affordable way to bring the Halloween spirit into your dorm.

4. K-Cup Lights

This speaks to college students everywhere. Recycling your K-cups and making them into cute little lights may be, by far, the best DIY Halloween decoration for a college student there is.

5. Glitter Pumpkin

What girl doesn’t love a little glitter in their dorm? This glittery pumpkin is the perfect craft to make while watching a Halloween favorite like Hocus Pocus.

6. Magnetic Spiders

Arachnophobes may not like this one.  Magnetic spiders hanging on your dorm room door or mini-fridge is definitely one way to freak out your neighbors.

7.  Hanging Bats

Straight from Martha Stewart herself, these hanging bats are a cute and easy way to bring some spooky vibes into your dorm.

8. Spider Egg Sac

No better way to fully get into the Halloween spirit than finishing off your DIY decorating with a faux spider egg sac. Creepy and creative!
