6 Green St. Patrick’s Day Drinks That Aren’t Just Dyed Beer

When St. Paddy’s Day rolls in, most are left to think it’s a day filled of gaudy green accessories and an abundance of beer. Don’t get me wrong, for some that sounds like fun, but for those who may opt for an alternative version to celebrate the day, feel free to try out one of these enjoyable drinks (alcoholic and booze-free) that will make you feel like you’re part of the Irish crowd!

 

1. Good Morning Greens Smoothie

If beer for breakfast isn’t your thing, go for a powerful-green smoothie to ring in the festivities of the day.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cucumber, sliced
  • 1 apple, cored and sliced
  • 2 cups of kale leaves
  • 3 stalks of celery, greens and all, cut into chunks
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 1 inch of fresh ginger, peeled or not

Instructions:

  1. Press all the produce through a juicer. Enjoy immediately!

 

2. Ginger & Mint Lime Float

Try this deliciously refreshing quencher anytime but especially for St. Paddy’s Day.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of water
  • One 2 ½ inch pieces of fresh ginger (peeled and sliced)
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 8 lime wedges
  • 4 sprigs of mint
  • 1 cup of lime sherbet
  • 2 cups club soda (chilled)

Instructions:

  1. In a blender, combine the water and ginger until pureed.
  2. Transfer this mixture into a small saucepan then stir in the sugar.
  3. Bring mixture to a boil then reduce the heat to a simmer. Heat for about 10 minutes or until mixture slightly thickens.
  4. Let mixture cool completely.
  5. For each drink, pour about ¼ cup of the ginger syrup into a tall glass.
  6. Squeeze in two lime wedges, mint sprigs, and muddle.
  7. Fill the glass about ¾ full with club soda and then add 1-2 scoops of lime sherbet top it off.

6. Homemade Matcha Coconut Latte

Why wait in line at Starbucks when you can make your own matcha latte at home in just a few minutes?

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. Sift matcha so it is lump-free.
  2. Spoon the matcha into a large mug.
  3. Add the hot water and coconut milk and whisk briskly (an up and down motion) until frothy (about 30 seconds).
  4. Taste and add additional water, coconut milk, and sweetener for your preference.

Note: You do not need a special matcha whisk, any kitchen whisk will work.
