It’s Cold…AGAIN? Activities to Help You Navigate The Non-Stop Cold Weather

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Chicago chapter.

You thought the cold weather was over, you really, really did. But next thing you knew, the promise of sunny 70s turned back into the chilly, cloudy 40s you just wanted gone. But even if the weather is frightful, there’s more than enough to do while you’re at home! Read on for some tips and tricks to keep you occupied while the rain and snow come down again.

Make dinner.

When the days are better suited inside, reading magazines is a great way to pass the time. So grab a Bon Appetit or Cooking Light and broaden your cooking horizons. After some quality reading time, head to the store or the market. The process of finding the best places to buy your ingredients is one of my favorites. There are a lot of specialty food stores right now and they’re a great place to get cooking tips as well.

Play Dress Up

Practice your makeup skills or learn some new ones. Michelle Phan offers a whole array of tutorials.

Get Crafty

And I don’t just mean with markers and crayons. Phototshop is the grown up coloring book. Learn some new tricks from YouTube video tutorials. Or tell a story with funny gifs and send it to your friends.

If you prefer hands on crafts, magazines such as Martha Stewart have cool crafts to decorate your home. But it’s just as fun to break out the beads and Lisa Frank stickers from your middle school days and go wild. Making best friend bracelets passes the time and brings out the memories of crafts past. Or pick up some touristey post cards and send them away to show you care.

And of course, stay active

While it’s far from beach weather, head to the gym to stay in shape. This is a good way to get some fresh air, even for a bike ride or walk. And this can be at any time, even at night!

U Chicago

Annie is a Political Science major at the University of Chicago who not only writes for Her Campus, but is also one of Her Campus UChicago's Campus Correspondents. She also acts as Editor-In-Chief of Diskord, an online op-ed publication based on campus, and as an Arts and Culture Co-Editor for the university's new Undergraduate Political Review. When she's not busy researching, writing, and editing articles, Annie can be found pounding out jazz choreography in a dance room, furiously cheering on the Vancouver Canucks, or around town on the lookout for new places, people, and things. This year, Annie is back in DC interning with Voice of America once again!
