Sigma Chi brother Jeff Sloan may work in the Office of Career Advancement and be part of the Dean’s Advisory Council, but nothing makes him happier than DJ-ing all around campus. You’ve seen him at Sig Chi, the Jericho, and so many other events on campus that it’s hard to have not heard of DJ Retroactive, as he is known.
Despite his love for the bass guitar, the dance scene soon got to Jeff when, in high school, he began attending raves thrown by his fellow high school students, raves that opened his eyes to EDM and, eventually, a set of turntables.
Since then, Jeff hasn’t regretted a thing.
“I love DJ-ing because I believe that music has the ability to create powerful shared experiences, he explains. “Shaping these experiences through performance and music selection is amazingly rewarding.”
The next stop? A gig at Sigma Chi this Saturday for the frat’s Derby Days party, drawing an end to the crazy week. What will he be playing? Well, Jeff’s keeping everything a secret right now, but the DJ has confirmed that he’ll be premiering a good number of new mashups and edits, all the result of years of practice and refining his skills!
What’s more, this may be one of the last times DJ Retroactive hits the scene. Always on the lookout for new things to try, don’t be surprised if DJ Retroactive transforms into, just simple, DJ Jeff Sloan. But for now, head to the Sigma Chi party for a night of beat-dropping house music, courtesy of Hyde Park’s very own DJ Retroactive!
