5 Ways to Stay Warm on Campus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Arkansas chapter.

Fall in Fayetteville can get a bit chilly, and by chilly I mean absolutely freezing. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes we get some beautiful fall days – but then the cold sneaks up on you and suddenly it feels like 30 degrees outside. After years of experience I have finally learned how to prepare for the unpredictable weather of Fayetteville. If you have trouble staying warm, keep reading!

1. Layers

Layers, layers and more layers. Layering your clothes is key, especially when its 30 degrees outside but 110 degrees in your biology lab. Wear a t-shirt, sweatshirt and a jacket on top of that! Trust me, you will be happy that you did.

2. Thermal Underwear

I know when you think of thermal underwear you probably think of your grandparents or Scrooge, but seriously. Thermal underwear on many occasions has saved me from the pain of wind chill. Leggings are sometimes too thin, so throw a pair of thermals on under them and double up. I bought my pair at Wal Mart!

3. Hats/Ear Covers

This one is vital. Your parents always told you that most of the heat in your body escapes from your head, and surprise – they were right! You need something to keep your head warm, and if not your head then your ears. Nothing is worse than the pain you feel in your ears when the temperature drops, and a hat or ear warmers will help immensely.

4. Wool Socks

If you love fuzzy socks or socks that keep your feet warm, you are going to love wool socks! Wool socks lock out the wind and cold and keep your toes nice and toasty. Plus, they look super cute with a pair of boots!

5. Scarves

This one seems almost too obvious, but it is also really important. I can’t begin to tell you how many days I cursed at myself for forgetting to put a scarf on. Even with layers and hats and thick socks, your neck is still exposed to the cold. A scarf will take you from shivering to content in an instant. Make sure that your scarf is thick and does not have large holes for the wind to escape through.

Stay warm friends! The cold weather will creep up on you, so be prepared!
