Mardi Gras is upon us, and with that comes a seasonal dish called King Cake. For those of you who haven’t spent Carnival Season in New Orleans before, go try some. You can find it any and everywhere (Whole Foods makes a great one and PJ’s sells them on campus.) For those of you who have, here are 5 fresh ways to indulge in this classic NOLA treat.

1.     King Cake Cupcakes are adorable and festive. They’re perfect for a Mardi Gras themed party or to make for Big/Little week.

2.     King Cake Milkshakes are a delicious way to enjoy the treat on unseasonably warm winter days. Recipe here; and if you’re not of age, replace the vodka with water and a splash of vanilla extract.

3.     King Cake Taaka. If you’re 21, try it. Not for the faint of heart.

4.     Now that they deliver (!!!!!) try Sucre’s Mardi Gras Macarons.

5.     If you’re really adventurous, try Food Drunk’s (a New Orleans food truck) King Cake Burger: the epitome of “eat it for the Insta.”

Eat up, Mardi on, and don’t worry about the calories. You’ll burn plenty walking to all the parades.
