Restaurants to Be Thankful For in New Orleans

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tulane chapter.

As Thanksgiving rolls around, we all start to think about what we’re thankful for; family, friends, and our health. As most of us go home for a great home cooked meal, we are more than thankful to have any meal that’s not Bruff. But, one thing to keep in mind over Thanksgiving is that in New Orleans we are surrounded by good food. Yes, it’s unrealistic to go get a good bite to eat with friends a few times a week, but sometimes we just need to splurge. Especially when we need a reminder that we are in the great city of New Orleans, the food capital of the country.

Personally, I am not a turkey fan. I prefer a big piece of steak or a nice burger. Houston’s, located a little ways down on St. Charles, is my favorite place for a burger. Houston’s will always have a special place in my heart because we have a Houston’s back home where I live, and I can’t explain the excitement I had when I found out there was a Houston’s only a few miles away from Tulane. Houston’s is a little pricey, around $18 for a burger, but worth every penny, and definitely something to be thankful for.

Another restaurant to be thankful for is Dat Dog. Dat Dog is another great way to get some protein, but not as pricey. Dat Dog has forever changed my view on hot dogs, and will always hold a place in my heart as it was the first time I tried duck. And if you haven’t been to Dat Dog yet, you are really missing out / a failure. Sorry.

Boucherie is also in walking distance of Tulane on Jeannette Street, and is probably my favorite restaurant in New Orleans. The first time I went to Boucherie was when I was visiting the school and a student suggested it to me. Safe to say after eating at Boucherie I was definitely coming to Tulane. Boucherie is Southern Contemporary food and every bite has so much flavor and personality that you end up licking the plate trying to get more. My favorite eats at Boucherie are the caesar salad, the brisket (Happy Hanukkah), and the pulled pork cake. Definitely get the lemonade. too!

Happy Thanksgiving, and when you all are enjoying your home cooked turkey and stuffing make sure to remember all the food at your home away from home, New Orleans!
